So last night ma cherie offered to pick me up on her motorcycle after French class today, so we could zooom zooom zoooom off to Kura together and try the Japanese delicacies there.

Class came and went …and there was nobody in sight. :(

Turns out her motorcycle ran out of gas by the time she reached the library, and instead she was making her way on foot to meet me ..hahah. Dreams of being on a motorbike vanished out the window…

Anyways, by the time we eventually got to Kura, there was a 10 minute wait for the next table, and seeing as we had class at 6pm, we decided to abandon ship and proceed to the next restaurant that took our fancy!

And the winner was …. *drum roll*

Yee King Noodles! The King of Noodles!

It took us ages to decide what to order, on account of the menu being all pretty and colourful (or maybe that was just because of the abundance of food photos)
And also because we (or I) couldn’t stop oogling at our surroundings..

The Chinese lanterns hanging from the ceilings were strangely reminiscent of that Asian place on Quay St with the grapes hanging from the ceiling …except this place was ten times cleaner.

We originally thought the mismatching chopsticks were a mistake (“obviously they rushed our table setting!”) BUT .. it turns out that every table had a red and a yellow chopstick. It was pretty weird using it like that because it felt so ..uneven, BUT it was definitely a unique yet creative touch XD

We eventually decided on..

Deep Fried Pork Balls with Capsicum – $12.80

The actual deep fried pork balls

For some reason my camera always interprets steam as a bright glare. : But yes! Although these pork balls sounded incredibly tasty, the first one I had was just all faaaaaat.

Yuck! The second one still tasted like fat, and the third, and the forth, and so on. Grace said that every second one tasted fine to her and even went so far as to say that they tasted like KFC popcorn chicken, but KFC chat on this any day!!!! And I expected something crunchy :(

Stewed Spare Ribs with Clear Noodles – $15.80

The actual clear noodles – did anyone notice the green chilli lookalikes in the menu photo to the actual shallots above? Not to mention that the noodles aren’t actually FLAT in the photo! hahahah

The spare ribs actually reminded me of the meat you get in those starter soups in Chinese restaurants (which I think is delicious!), and the clear noodle was like a flat noodle similar to the texture of potato noodle ..but more soft, and gluggy, and slippery!

We took the photos to see whether the food would turn out like their menu counterparts, but I only just noticed the sentence at the bottom of the menu … =S (See Spare Ribs Menu photo: “These images are for illustration purposes only.”)

I’d say the entire experience was …interesting, to say the least. After eating, my insides felt slicked with oil and fat …and that never happens! Even though according to Graceface it wasn’t that oily. I guess I’ve just been eating too much HEALTHY stuff lately ! Yes that is riiiight (although I do remember gorging myself on duck and pig fat just yesterday)

She got so distressed when I told her class was starting in 5 minutes, that she promptly spilled all her food on the table. I don’t know HOW that happened, but definite Kodak moment.
